Pioneer hypnosis show winds down 2-year run

After two years producing shows in the Pioneer Underground theater, hypnotist Chris Cady is calling it quits.
"I have a lot of things that are going to take up a lot of my time for the next six months," Cady said in an interview this week. "I'm going to really focus on these other projects that I want to do and that I've been basically neglecting for two years. I'm going to do that and then I'm going to re-open next year some time, somewhere else."
Cady said he loves working at the Pioneer Underground theater, which is part of the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts complex, but he doesn't expect it will be available when he's ready to mount another regular show.
"Somebody else will probably be there," he said. "It's a beautiful theater. "» It's very desirable."
Cady has delivered his "Get Hypnotized!" show at the Pioneer Center most weekends since December 2008, and he's closing near what would be his two-year anniversary at the facility. He said he underestimated the impact that the recession would have on producing a regular show at the Pioneer, but he thinks the two-year run was respectable.
Cady said he's going to use some of the time that he used to devote to "Get Hypnotized!" to writing a book about medical uses for hypnosis and to producing several hypnosis-related DVDs. He also said he is going to continue booking private shows and private hypnotherapy sessions.
Prior to opening "Get Hypnotized!" at Pioneer Underground, Cady said, he did a lot of work on the road.
"When I was doing all that travelling, the economy was booming and companies were willing to spend that kind of dough," he said. "That work has certainly slowed way down, so I don't suspect I'll be flying back and forth three times a week like I was before. Nor do I want to. One of my goals is to really just focus on what I want to do with the book and the DVDs and some other projects. But I'm not going to turn those dates down if they give them to me."
"We'll probably do a few special things for these last couple shows," he said. "I'm not even sure what they are yet, but it will be something cool. My show is like 50 percent planned stuff and the other 50 percent is improv. Most of my ideas come to me while I'm driving between my house and the theater. I know I'm going to do something cool and extra special but it probably won't hit me until I'm pulling out of my driveway."
